It is not always possible to schedule surgery in advance. Still, it is essential to understand beforehand how long recovery may take—knowing the restrictions and what help will be needed once you are home is a great help. Speaking to your doctor or your hospital discharge planner about home care services before surgery will help you prepare for when you go home. If your surgery results from an emergency, a family member or other caregiver could arrange for services on your behalf.
Outpatient (day) surgery has become a much more common option. Many people find themselves recovering from surgery at home the same day as their procedure. Some are unprepared to effectively manage their pain and discomfort, making it difficult for them to perform routine tasks or primary personal care. They may be weak and tired. Managing multiple medications can be confusing and adequately caring for the incision site can be challenging. That’s where home care can help.
Emily’s Concierge Caregiving is available to work with your physician to personalize your care and needs. Post-operative care services can be arranged for as little as a few hours up to 24 hours or longer. Depending on the surgery’s complexity, you may receive a single type of care or a combination of services. Caregivers can provide services such as wound care and medication management, along with personal care, including bathing, dressing, housekeeping, and transportation.
